Why Tango?
Tango allows you to study and refine both the perception of your own body and of the couple, and it uses smooth and delicate movements, which will lull your baby into a relaxed state. Having the three of you dancing tango together brings the focus of both carers on the baby, and at the same time strengthens the communication in the couple. For the baby, it is a unique experience of love and care, feeling embraced by both carers*, in a way that enhances the development of attachment. Why babywearing? There are several benefits to babywearing, for example it improves hip development, as well as emotional and intellectual growth. You can read more about the benefits of babywearing here. Why babywearing while dancing? As your baby grows and develops, so do her social, language and motor skills. You can help facilitate this, as well as the proper development of your baby's spine and hips through babywearing dance. Dancing with baby has important benefits such as improved muscle tone, increased bone density, enhanced spatial awareness and needed discharge of excess energy that cannot release through movement until crawling begins. Listening to the cadence of rhythmic music helps baby start to make sounds and learn to vocalise. |
Where and when is the course? Three to Tango takes place at Chesterton Methodist Church on Tuesdays, 6-7pm. The class runs for 45-50 minutes and allows for a final 10-15 minutes of informal socialising and/or free practice with music, with teachers available for questions and clarifications. The course will run for 6 weeks, from Tuesday 18th April to Tuesday 23rd May. Baby changing facilities are available, as well as free car park next to the church. Cost of the course The course costs £75 per couple and includes your weekly class, as well as free access to Milonga Connection, our weekly social dancing evening on Saturdays. If you are worried you cannot commit to the whole course, talk to us to discuss drop-in options. Your teachers Your teachers are experienced tango instructors, and Francesca is a certified pilates instructor with specialisation in post-natal exercise, and certified trained babywearing peer supporter (as well as a baby wearing dancing mum!). Therefore they will be able not only to guide you through the discovery of this magical dance, but also to support you both with engaging in an activity postpartum and ensuring you are wearing your baby safely for your health. *All you need to take part in this course is yourself, your baby, a carrier of your choice, and a partner - be it a romantic one or a friend or family member. |
